    Anchor

    Anchor

My boat sits atop the ocean, the sky, and waves indistinguishable in the dead of night. I sense the wave coming and brace for the incalculable impact. Knuckles white with dread, I try to recall the glass-like sea, crystal-clear water and boat in motionless synchronicity, the air still and silent.

    Plates

    Plates

jeering a grin   water-coloured crystal shimmer spindle-esque discs spin over, around and above on stilts like rainbow coloured clowns   their secrets given up by the hummingbird whoosh tottering on tiny brittle twigs   atop the wobble-legged table   point on, slip a mil away crumpled mosaic to be   floor candy …   […]

    We must

    We must

We must reflect on what has come before, what is now, and what may be. If we do not, we are beings that breathe and not much more. (c)2022 Miriam E. Miles

    Humble pie

    Humble pie

Otherwise known as: The unread terms and conditions of humility. I have become quite uncomfortable with the level of humility God seems to want me to experience. It’s not that I’ve been (to my knowledge) particularly conceited or proud but that (as is often the case), I was unwise to ask for wisdom and understanding. […]

Whose 8 Ball am I behind?

Whose 8 Ball am I behind?

For as long as I can remember I have felt like I’ve missed something – some kind of hidden social instructions I seem to have not received at birth like everyone else seemed to have received.

Fake it Till you Make it

Fake it Till you Make it

I get it though. It’s sometimes worth giving ourselves a pep talk, shooting from the hip and putting ourselves on the chopping block with all we’ve got, even if we are not sure we’ve got it at all. There’s merit in this, sure. But what happens when the ‘make it’ part doesn’t eventuate?

Excuse Me, But Which Way to Encounter God?

Excuse Me, But Which Way to Encounter God?

aith’ worshipping in song and shouting for joy, and being openly fervent in prayer with others, I also take great comfort from knowing that these are not the only ways to encounter and experience God.

Keeping the Faith in Unsafe Places

Keeping the Faith in Unsafe Places

As a 21st Century Christian living in a country that prioritises religious freedom, it’s a common understanding that community is paramount to growth; being part of a like-minded group provides emotional and spiritual support and helps us work toward personal and corporate goals. This is a wonderful thing to see in action and its Biblical […]

Is it Time to Turn the Tables on Corporate Worship?

Is it Time to Turn the Tables on Corporate Worship?

What would happen if instead of coming to church to get ‘fuelled up’, we brought our offering of praise and thanksgiving – the result of daily personal communion with God – into the House of God?

    Sometimes we are just powerless…

    Sometimes we are just powerless…

This mindset of feeling powerless and letting it guide my day, and letting my very isolated and short-term problems control my outcomes is not something I want to do…

    He’s in the little things…

    He’s in the little things…

It’s common to believe and agree that God speaks to people through the use of words; the Bible is the classic example of this with many accounts confirming that he does. But he also speaks in many other ways, and if we’re listening, not with our ears, but our hearts, we just might hear so […]
